When the first boat landed to the new world the voyagers who set out did so with the vision of leaving behind a monarchy that persecuted them for their religious beliefs. They hoped to establish an autonomous society away from the thumb of the king.
The Vietnam War was the longest and most unpopular war in which Americans ever fought. And there is no reckoning the cost. The toll in suffering, sorrow, in rancorous national turmoil can never be tabulated. No one wants ever to see America so divided again. And for many of the more than two million American veterans of the war, the wounds of Vietnam will never heal. Fifty-eight thousand Americans lost their lives. The losses to the Vietnamese people were appalling. The financial cost to the United States comes to something over $150 billion dollars. David McCullough www.pbs.org <http://www.pbs.org/>
Did we have a policy to win?
We are at war in America there is a war going on. Do we know this? Sure we see the news. If you or a member of your family is involved in the military you know. As we carry on with business transactions, holiday shopping/parties, work, & school it really doesn̢۪t make an impact on us. We are cognizant of the war but really I believe we have a large disconnection with it. Sure there are the office drives to send food and supplies the card campaigns that we may or may not par-take. But as an average citizen with no family involved in the military (a large number of us fall into this category) it does not affect us.
Do we have a policy to win?
We seem to be moving forward to where there will be large numbers of us boarding a boat (rocket ship) to embark onto the new new world. Mars? Venus? Canada! Yes Canada they have just had a win fall in the gay marriage front. The courts have approved the definition to be changed to same sex marriages (six proveniences and one territory) now the issue will be sent to parliament. Canada has also decriminalized marijuana. America was the spear head of free thinking, the constitution lead the way.
